Ok, this started as a pretty stressful adventure, but it ended up being a good one, so I’m calling it a win.
I bought tickets for me and the kids to go to Legoland this weekend. I jumped on them quickly because they were running a deal—if you booked a night at their hotel, you got a significant discount on their annual gold pass. It sounded like a no-brainer. What I didn’t realize at the time was that Lydia had an 8am softball game Saturday morning, and Cohen had a 9am fencing tournament and a 5pm church fundraiser. In other words, it was basically the worst possible weekend to plan a Legoland trip.
I tried to convince Jeff to take Lydia and Cohen, but getting Cohen to his fencing tournament was going to be tricky. I even tried to cancel the trip, but the “deal” made that impossible. So I came up with a slightly bananas plan: pull the kids out of school early on Friday, spend as much time as we could at Legoland that afternoon, stay overnight, and then get up early to bring Lydia and Cohen back to the city in time for their events and James, Lydia, and I would return to Legoland for another day at the park. Somehow… it worked.
I picked the kids up around 10:10am, and we headed north. We grabbed a quick lunch at Burger King and made it to Legoland by 1pm, which gave us a solid chunk of time to explore. I was actually really impressed with how much we managed to do.
We checked out the new Ferrari Building experience, which was a huge hit with Lydia and James. Lydia needed a little help getting her car built, but once she did, she was all in—and even won first place in the virtual race. James absolutely loved it. He built multiple cars and kept racing them. I just love how into Lego he is.
Next, we headed to the Ninjago area, but it had just closed because of the rain. No big deal—we pivoted to the dragon roller coaster, which all three kids loved. After that, we explored the city area, Cohen and Lydia did the driving school, and caught the 4D movie. We circled back so Cohen and Lydia could ride the dragon coaster again, grabbed some ice cream, and then returned to Ninjago once everything reopened. We managed to get on both rides there before heading to the hotel.
The kids love the Legoland hotel—it’s so well-themed and just fun to be in. The restaurant, on the other hand, was not great, and I don’t think we’ll be rushing back. Since we had an early morning ahead, I let the kids finish The Lego Movie 2 before getting them to bed.
I, however, barely slept—I was too stressed about getting everyone back in time the next morning. But despite all of that, it really was a good day.
