Planning this summer’s journey sparked an idea: instead of retracing our usual route back to New York City, why not take the road less traveled and drive up and over the country through Canada? The thought of ending our summer with an impressive route mapped across new terrain was thrilling. Jeff was immediately on board for the Canadian adventure, and together we mapped out our trip while I was visiting him in NYC. Leaving my family again was bittersweet—it had been a wonderful summer filled with memories—but the excitement of an epic road trip to cap off our travels helped lift my spirits.
We set out early this morning and drove north, aiming for Kamloops, BC, with a planned stop at the scenic Hell’s Gate Airtram along the way. Lunch was a treat at a quirky little restaurant conveniently located next to a Tesla charger, fueling both the car and our energy for the adventure ahead.
Hell’s Gate Airtram
Hell’s Gate Airtram proved to be a memorable highlight. Although we stayed for just an hour, it offered plenty of fun—the kids were thrilled by the tram ride and exploring the charming area across the river. Gusts of wind whipped around us as we crossed the bridge, its grated floor revealing rushing water below, adding a bit of exhilaration to our walk. We caught snippets of local history and then hopped back in the car, everyone refreshed from the stop. Jeff said it was the perfect way to break up the drive: quick, entertaining, and just what the kids needed to stretch their legs and curiosity.
We arrived in Kamloops and settled in for the night, ready to continue our Canadian road trip the next day. So far, exploring Canada has been a unanimous hit—the landscapes are simply breathtaking.
