Cohen reached the big 1-0! I can’t believe it’s been a decade since I first met this fun, energetic, crazy, sweet, kid.
This weekend we celebrated Cohen with his favorite foods, friends, presents, and cake (two cakes to be exact!). Cohen got a lot of Pokémon for his birthday which made it the best birthday ever. Seriously, this kid is obsessed with Pokémon. We threw Cohen and Lydia a summer birthday in August and celebrated with our La Center, WA friends so we kept this birthday weekend a little low key. I think he still had a good time and felt special all weekend.
Saturday – Pre Birthday Celebration
Cohen wanted to have some friends over for his birthday. I didn’t want to have a full on party, but I let him invite three of his friends over, Jack, Parker, and Vejas. We have been meaning to spend more time with his friends, but with all their rather busy schedules it’s been hard. We sometimes run into them at the playground which is always nice, but I don’t think its enough friend time for Cohen. For the Cohen’s birthday the boys hung out at our apartment with Jeff. They looked at Pokémon, played Taco (or at least tired), and played some video games. It was a great time and Cohen was so thrilled.
We served the boys all of Cohens favorite treats which was mostly sweets and lets just say the were high on sugar. It was time for the party to be over but the boys wouldn’t go home and they wouldn’t stop wrestling. They were CRAZY!
The Big Day – November 12th
Since his birthday was on a Sunday, we didn’t do much, but it was kind of special since it was the Primary Program and they did a linger longer after. I brought cupcakes to share with the ward and Cohen ran around with his friends. We then headed home and let Cohen open his presents after we did our traditional photoshoot!
Gifts, Gifts, and More Pokémon!
Cohen got 634 Pokémon Cards between his friends and what Jeff, Lydia, and I gave him. Grandma and Grandpa got him a really cool trick yo-yo which he has thoroughly enjoyed playing with. I also got him some Christmas Pokémon pajamas!
An Afternoon of Binding Pokémon
I spent most of the afternoon helping him bind all his new Pokémon in the new binder that Mizz gave him. He had me organize them all by type and then he would put them in the binder. It was a great afternoon and I’m glad I got to spend this time with him doing what he loves. I’m not a huge Pokémon fan, but Cohen on his birthday I was 100%! He taught me a lot and go really excited when I thought one of them looked cool or cute. With the cards from his birthday in Washington and this birthday, Cohen filled the new binder! The kids got a lot of cards.
Steak and Cake
We finished the day with a steak and potatoes dinner and cake! It was a great day for a great 10 year old.

Cohen is in the 5th grade this year and is starting to love school again! He has made some really good friends and continues to make more. I feel like this is his year at school, which is fantastic after a really hard year last year. It’s just so hard being a kid sometimes. When Cohen is not studying his Pokémon collection, or reading, he’s playing The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom game on his switch. He is still taking piano lessons and has really started enjoying it now that his teacher brought him some fun songs to play. He’s currently playing “He’s a Pirate” from The Pirates of the Caribbean. He’s constantly walking over to the piano and playing it. I LOVE it! Cohen is getting so independent and helpful around the house, which makes me happy! He’s just turning into such a big kid and I’m so proud of him.
