Conference Weekend

What a weekend! Saturday was packed from start to finish. Jeff and Lydia kicked things off at her soccer game while I stayed home with the boys and wrapped the birthday presents we needed for the day. Afterward, Jeff walked James to Dylanโ€™s birthday party.

Once Lydia had a quick rest, I took her to the same party, while Cohen stayed home waiting to be picked up for Emmittโ€™s birthday celebration โ€” sushi with one of his best friends, which honestly sounded like the perfect afternoon for him.

My plan was to drop Lydia off and then run to the grocery store, but I got caught up chatting with some of the moms and stayed longer than expected. By the time I finally peeled away, traffic to Wegmans in Brooklyn was awful. One wrong turn added another 15 minutes, and finding a parking spot was a complete nightmare. The store itself was packed, and I was running so behind!

I dropped the groceries off at the apartment just in time to pick up Lydia again and take her to the new Gabbyโ€™s Dollhouse movie. It was such a fun little outing for just the two of us. We grabbed drinks and popcorn and made it to our seats right before the movie started. While I didnโ€™t love the movie, Lydia enjoyed it โ€” her review summed it up perfectly: โ€œIt wasnโ€™t that funny, but it was funny.โ€ I think all the best moments had already been shown in the trailer.

The day felt endless, but having Jeffโ€™s steady help made all the difference.

Conference Sunday

Sunday was another full but fun day. We invited Matt Johnson and his kids over to watch conference with us. Since cinnamon rolls are a Johnson family traditionโ€”and with Camille still in the hospitalโ€”I decided to give them a try in her place. They turned out a bit on the yeasty side, but still perfectly edible! Matt brought an egg bake, making good use of the extra eggs he had at home now that Camille isnโ€™t there to help eat them.

We watched the first session together and then headed to the playground to meet up with the Baums for a little playdate. It was nice to get outside, let the kids run around, and stretch our legs for a bit.

Afterward, the Johnsons came back to our apartment for the final session of conference. Jeff cooked up French toast and sausage for dinner, which hit the spot. By the end of the day, the kids were definitely worn out (and maybe a little wild), but it really was a great dayโ€”good friends, good food, and the chance to listen to the inspired words of our church leaders.
