The kids have the next two days off from school, so I decided to kick things off with a day at the Bronx Zoo. James was still a little miffed that I hadn’t taken any videos of the dinosaurs on the Dinosaur Safari last time, so I made sure to capture plenty this time around!
After a spin on the bug carousel, a stop by the butterflies, and quick visit to the giraffes, we made our way toward the monorail. On the way, I pulled out the handheld fans I’d bought for our upcoming summer trip—figuring today’s high-80s heat would be the perfect time to test them out. They were an instant hit. James lucked out with the best fan and clung to it all day, much to Cohen’s dismay. I promised Cohen I’d get him one for our road trip, which seemed to help. Lydia loved the fan that hangs around your neck, so I’m really glad we did this trial run—it definitely helped me figure out which fans to buy for everyone!
The Monorail!
I absolutely love the monorail, even if the line was extra long today. Thankfully, the fans kept us cool while we waited. The breeze on the monorail was a welcome relief, too. James was adorable—when we passed over the bridge at the start, he said he wanted to cross the bridge he saw up the river. I told him we would soon, but when we finally got to that bridge and I pointed it out, he just pointed back at the first one and insisted he wanted to go on that one instead! Classic James.
EWWWW….Snakes!
We made a quick stop at Jungle World and to see the bears before heading to the Reptile House. I warned James that if we went to see the reptiles, we wouldn’t have time to visit the dinosaurs again, but he was totally fine with that—he was on a mission to see SNAKES! I have to admit, I really don’t love that place, and I think the kids get a kick out of my discomfort.
Afterward, we grabbed some lunch and made our way home. It was a sweltering day, but it was packed with fun and memories!
