Our next big adventure was heading up to the IMAX at Lincoln Center to see How To Train Your Dragon. The kids were beyond excited to finally see a movie on the giant IMAX screen! We went all out at the concession stand—probably spent close to $100—but the staff were fantastic. They sold us a large bucket of popcorn and gave us extra containers for the kids. One of the employees told us, “Just fill up the containers and bring the bucket back—we’ll refill it for you.” Jeff took full advantage and went back for refills twice! We ended up with a mountain of popcorn, and the kids were in heaven.
The movie experience itself had a bit of a hiccup. Apparently, IMAX theaters can have issues with humidity and air conditioning, which causes condensation on the projector glass and can shut down the system. We had to wait about 30 minutes while they got everything working again, but since we didn’t have any other plans for the day, it wasn’t a problem. The kids loved the movie, so it was definitely a win.
Both Jeff and I thought the animated version was better, but the whole outing was still a blast. Fun fact: our third date was at this very IMAX theater 15 years ago to see the original How to Train Your Dragon. It’s wild to think that now, all these years later, we’re back here with our three kids. Time really does fly.
