Neskowin Creek Camping Trip: Making Memories One Marshmallow at a Time

One of my kids’ favorite summer traditions is camping. We did not get to go last year because of my parents’ surgeries, and this year I was not sure it would work out because of my dad’s truck. Thankfully, he was able to get it fixed just in time for us to squeeze in one quick trip before summer ended.

Cohen, Grandma, and Grandpa headed down on Monday. James, Lydia, and I waited for Mizz to return from her road trip with Kami, and then we drove down to meet them. When we arrived, we discovered that Grandma and Grandpa’s campsite was not quite ideal for setting up a tent. I went to the office and ended up reserving the site right next to theirs so we could set up our tent on the gravel. It was not exactly what we had planned, but it worked out in the end!

Setting Up the Tent

The kids were all-in when it came to helping set up the tent and arrange everything inside. Honestly, I think that might be one of their favorite parts of camping. They love turning the tent into their own little space.

Dinner and Dessert

After Grandma and Mizz took the kids swimming in the pool, we had dinner. Cohen was especially excited because we made hobo stew—foil-packet dinners—which he absolutely loves. They turned out really well, and even James and Lydia ate theirs. We finished the evening with s’mores. Cohen and Grandma were the only ones who fully committed to the whole s’mores experience, but everyone else enjoyed roasted marshmallows. James was actually getting really good at roasting his, while Cohen is basically an expert at this point.

Night Night Time!

I had a harder time that night. I had a really scary dream and could not fall back asleep afterward, but everyone else seemed to sleep wonderfully. The kids loved sleeping in the tent, having a little technology time, and getting to enjoy another camping adventure together.
