We kicked off our jam-packed weekend with the PS 276 Halloween Parade and Party. Unfortunately, Cohen couldn’t participate in the parade since the middle school wasn’t involved, but he still walked along at the end. I walked with James while Jeff accompanied Lydia, which is why I didn’t get many pictures of her in the parade. For the third year in a row, I have to say—this event stresses me out so much! I’ve been dreading it all month. But honestly, it went better than expected, probably because after two years, I’ve finally gotten used to the chaos.
Time to Party in the Battery!
At the party, I walked around with James while he trick-or-treated, and then we ended up near the DJ where we danced for a bit. James got upset because he really wanted a dance prize (a rubber duck) but refused to keep dancing long enough to earn one. Soon after, Lydia joined us—remember her epic dance moves from last year? She was all in again this time. She even participated in the spoon-and-duck race and, well… cheated her way to victory! She was absolutely thrilled with herself. After that win, though, she was totally over the event and ready to go home—much to my relief! We grabbed some treats from the bake sale on our way out and headed home for dinner.
The Monster Mash for the Cohen
Later that evening, it was Cohen’s turn to head out for the Monster Mash Dance at the school. It was a no-parents-allowed event, so he was pretty excited for some independence. He went with his good friends Parker and Jack. I’m so glad he has such good friends to do things with now. He came home around 8 p.m., though, and immediately complained about all the swearing in the songs since no one adult was filtering the music. I’ve raised such a good kid! One Halloween activity down—now on to the next!
