Cohen and I hopped on the train and made the long trek out to the Queens Zoo — the last of the NYC zoos on our list. We wanted to squeeze in our visit before our membership expired, and I’m so glad we did. Though it’s one of the smaller zoos, we really enjoyed it. The highlight was an incredible aviary — one of the best I’ve seen in the city. The birds were stunning, and Cohen loved exploring the winding walkways beneath the canopy. When I asked which animal he most wanted to see, he immediately answered, “The bison!” He was absolutely thrilled when we finally found them.
Feeding the Animals
After our quick walk through the main zoo, we crossed over to the domestic animals section for Cohen’s favorite part — feeding the animals! He lit up as he fed the goats and sheep, gently petting each one. I think this was the best petting zoo of all the NYC zoos we’ve visited. They even had a few longhorns, including one with enormous horns — easily the longest we’ve ever seen. He was such a striking animal, and Cohen was completely fascinated. He was genuinely sad when it was time to move on.
Fantasy Forest Carousel Park
We wrapped up our Queens adventure at the nearby Fantasy Forest Carousel Park. I thought for sure Cohen would head straight for the carousel, but instead, he was drawn to the Corona Choo Choo train ride and the Baja Buggies. He couldn’t get enough of them! It’s safe to say Cohen has officially developed a love for rides.
