Broadway: Art

I haven’t won a Broadway lottery in months—it’s so sad! Thankfully, Maria has been on a hot streak lately. She won tickets to Art, and since her sister was visiting, she also entered and won Death Becomes Her, which her sister went to with Gus. That meant Maria was free to take me to Art! I was thrilled—it’s one of those shows that feels almost impossible to win tickets for.

I wasn’t sure how much I’d enjoy it since I’m not a huge Corden fan, but he completely won me over. There’s a monologue where he’s on the phone with his mom, and it was honestly perfect—so genuine and well-timed. I was totally impressed with his performance. Neil Patrick Harris was great too!

The show itself was funny, though not my all-time favorite. As we left the theater, Maria and I were chatting, and I told her it reminded me of a play I saw back in 2009 called God of Carnage—same kind of energy: a smart, ridiculous argument turned comedy. Later that night, Maria texted me to say she’d read in the Playbill that Art was written by the same playwright as God of Carnage! I felt so proud of myself—like, I actually knew something! I couldn’t remember the name, but I definitely recognized the style.
